June 3rd – In an aim to boost UK – PH trade relations and explore areas of possible collaboration, the British Chambers of Commerce (BCC) Director General John Longworth, met some leading business organizations and entrepreneurs in the Philippines. BCC is a dynamic and independent business network with presence in the UK and key markets around the world representing thousands of businesses of all sectors and sizes.
The British Chamber of Commerce Philippines (BCCP) chaired by Chris Nelson, facilitated the one-day market visit. Highlights of Longworth’s visit included a breakfast with BCCP Members, Business lunch with the British Ambassador, H.E. Asif Ahmad and the UK Trades and Investment (UKTI) and a Networking Reception with representatives of the British business, some local players led by the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI), and industry leaders.
Longworth’s team in the UK has been supporting the Chambers globally in delivering quality services to British businesses particularly on its intervention for UK SMEs.
Launched last year through a grant from UKTI, the BCCP currently operates the British Business Centre project that provides assistance to UK Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) wanting to export or do business in the Philippines. This is in response to the growing interest of UK SMEs eyeing to expand their business to emerging markets like the Philippines.
“The British Chambers of Commerce and UK Accredited Chambers have historically had close relationships with British Chambers of Commerce worldwide,” Longworth said. He explained BCC’s strategy in building efficient Chamber networks with focus on representation, accreditation, connection to the UK Network and longer sustainability and through the maximum use of digital media.
Taking on a more business focused direction with the leadership of Nelson, the BCCP is sure to be even more dynamic and proactive in delivering quality service for the benefit of its members and UK businesses.
“John’s visit is greatly appreciated by the Chamber especially by the Board. He came at a perfect time when the British Chamber of Commerce Philippines is at the peak of its commitment to become more inclusive, transparent and dynamic in delivering quality service to our members,” Nelson said.
