June inflation seen lowest since 1994

Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) Governor A. Tetangco, Jr. said that annual inflation could have settled within 1.1-2.0% this month as he estimates June inflation would be the slowest monthly inflation rate on record since at least 1994, beating the current low of 1.6% logged last month. The forecast range for June is likewise lower than the 1.6-2.4% the central bank chief had offered for May. Meanwhile, despite the weaker-than-expected gross domestic product (GDP) data from the last quarter, HSBC economist Trinh D. Nguyen said she expects the economy to expand by 6.0% in 2015, a slight improvement from the 5.9% the analyst had tipped in February, but still falls well below the 7%-8% target set by Government.
