10 August – The British Chamber of Commerce Philippines (BCCP) summoned key government officials to discuss the 10-point socioeconomic agenda – President Rodrigo Duterte’s economic and development blueprint for the Philippines. The event was held at Fairmont Makati, in cooperation with the Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO), the Makati Business Club (MBC), the Management Association of the Philippines (MAP), and the Philippines British Business Council (PBBC). Speakers, including several cabinet secretaries, explained specific strategies expected to result in a more globally competitive economy – such as the Philippine Development Plan (PDP) 2017-2022, the Philippine Investment Plan (PIP) 2017- 2022, and AmBisyon Natin 2040. According to NEDA Chief Pernia, these will lay down a solid foundation for more inclusive growth, and a high-trust and resilient society. BCCP Chairman Chris Nelson highlighted the growing membership and network of the Chamber, and its assistance to British SMEs keen to do business in the Philippines. UK-PH economic ties continue to grow and receive unceasing support from the Chamber and its partners, British Embassy Manila and Department for International Trade (DIT).
