UK firms eye renewable energy in sustaining PH growth

A number of British energy companies from the United Kingdom accompanied George Freeman MP, and Trade Envoy to the Philippines during his visit last June 17-18 to explore potential opportunities in the energy sector.

During a conference held by the Philippine Government’s Department of Energy, George Freeman championed the sector with the notion that the UK is looking to bring in enterprises with the technology to be able to source more efficient ways of consuming energy. It signals to investors in the UK, that the Philippines has a thriving energy sector with potential investment.

Talking to delegates and the media, George Freeman said, ”we see opportunities for the UK to support and develop the energy economy in the Philippines both in terms of larger manufacturing companies who will need energy security over the long-term to invest and also help the country to develop a mix of energy supply.
[We] want to highlight [to] British companies to have confidence in the Philippines as a market to invest in the long-term.” DoE secretary Jericho Petilla also welcomed the idea of welcoming more foreign investorsinto this sector.
